FAQ

Will the OCPA handle my travel arrangements?

No. Your registration covers the costs related to the program that you will be participating in. The ISC East and related events at the convention center, OCPA led CPTED assessments and discussions and police facility presentation are covered under the registration fee. Travel, lodging, meals and related expenses are the responsibility of the attendee.

How will I get around while in New York?

There will be a lot of walking in New York. It’s what they do. It is anticipated that public transportation i.e., the subway will be used. If you have never experienced the subway, no fear… we will be there with you!

Will we always be in a group?

Most of the time yes. This working group session is training and an extension of the workday for many attendees. The city is the classroom. You will have time on your own to explore after the planned events.

Will there be an OCPA Point of Contact?

Yes. Members of the OCPA training and Certification committee will assist in managing the itinerary.

Will we all be staying at the same hotel?

Unknown. Lodging locations are secured by the attendees. It is highly recommended that hotel reservations be made through the ISC East hotel website. Prices will probably be the best and the group will be close together. Whether you room with another attendee or get your own room, that is up to you.

I have never been to New York, what should I expect?

Taking part in something out of the ordinary can be a very rewarding experience. This program stresses that we learn by doing and that we do it together. Notably, you will see a lot of people – a lot. You will notice that things are more expensive, and that the lifestyle is at a faster pace.

Will we be seeing all of New York?

No. New York is comprised of five boroughs (a type of government district). The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. All OCPA planned activities will be taking place in Manhattan.

Should I wait to sign-up?

No. Travel costs usually get more expensive closer to the event date and the program is limited to a small number due to the type of program that has been arranged. Once registered you will be included in a group communication and receive program updates leading up to the event. Once the program is full there will be no additions or waitlist.
